Pedestrian Safety: We are never really safe when it comes to pedestrian safety. There are still pedestrians jaywalking, cars speeding through red lights, or tailgating in busy streets. While it may seem like these things are not what some may call "serious" problems, or "high priority", they do in fact impact our community greatly. In the United States, the leading cause of death for kids between the ages of one and fourteen, is due to automobile accidents- in the year 2009, over 12,000 youths were injured in automobile accidents. Approximately 244 of them died. The risk of automobile accidents in Malden, Massachusetts is dangerously high, and more and more people are dying every year due to car crashes. As the death toll goes up, so does the need for change. But change is only possible, with the cooperation of the community as a whole, and with the help of those with the power to make immediate decisions within our community.
